INDUCTED 2017

North Penn High School, 2003

Nick Fanslau is honored to be part of the 2017 class of inductees being elected into the North Penn Athletic Hall of Fame. During his time at North Penn, Nick was fortunate to be teamed up with a talented group of swimmers, divers, water polo players and coaches. The Class of 2003 played a major part of 2 State Swimming Championships (2000 and 2003) as well as two Runner-up State Championships (2001 and 2002).  During their reign, they also maintained the North Penn tradition of never losing a dual meet in 4 years (48-0), as well as winning the District One Championship Meet all four years.  The 2000 and 2003 seasons brought national attention, ranking North Penn as one of the best public high school teams in the US including a National Championship in 2000. In addition to swimming, Nick also participated on the water polo team where North Penn consistently ranked as a top team in the state, including runner-up finishes in 2002 and 2003.

Nick began his swimming career with the Towamencin Swim Team and soon transitioned into year-round swimming with the North Penn Aquatic Club. In 1999, Nick joined the North Penn High School Swimming and Water Polo teams.  Little did anyone imagine the impact that Nick would have on both programs.  By the end of his career, Nick was a 6 time NISCA All American Swimmer, 4 Time Swimming State Champion, 8 Time All-State 1st Team Swimmer, 3 Time District 1 Swimmer of the Meet, 11 Time District 1 Champion, Team record holder (Medley Relay), 2 Time All State Water Polo Player and a 7 season letter winner.  Nick also showed great leadership being named the captain of both teams in his senior year.

Nick played an integral role in the swim team’s success by being a State qualifier all four years in various events. His freshman year he was a member of both the 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay.  These two relays were the foundation of the Team Title in 2000. His sophomore year, he continued his success by taking Silver in the 400 Free Relay, Bronze in the 200 Individual Medley, and 4th in the 100 Breaststroke.  These events helped our team win the 2001 Runner-up State Championship.  During his junior year, he won the state championship in both the 100 Breaststroke and 400 Free Relay while taking Silver in the Medley Relay and Bronze in the 200 IM.  Once again these events helped our team win the 2002 Runner-up State Championship.  During his senior year, Nick won the state championship in both the Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay while taking Silver in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.  His extraordinary effort helped our team bring home the 2003 State Championship.

As a member of the water polo team, Nick used his speed and athleticism to help our team achieve two runner-up state championships during his tenure.  He was named 2nd Team All-State his Junior year and 1st Team All-State his senior year.

Upon graduation from North Penn in 2003, Nick swam at the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the 2005 and 2006 Big East Conference Championship teams and held the school record in the 200 yard Medley Relay. In 2007, Nick graduated with an undergraduate degree in Accounting.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Nick worked at a small financial consulting firm in Chicago for two years before returning to Philadelphia to accept a position at Chubb Limited where he has spent the past eight years in a various financial reporting roles. Nick is currently an Assistant Vice President in the SEC reporting department responsible for the production and dissemination of the quarterly earnings release and investor financial supplement.

Today, Nick lives with his wife Jill in Telford, PA. Jill is the Director of Digital Products and Content Marketing at Rodale, Inc., a global health, and wellness content company. Both spend most of their time working and raising their two children (Cameron and Josephine).
